SHY FEST III

Platforming an eclectic grassroots plethora of punk, alternative, experimental DIY acts… SHY FEST IS BACK for a third installment, and we’re bigger and better than ever!

In honour of the great unsung hero of the early Manchester punk scene, Steve ‘ShyTalk’ Burke; and as showcased on Craig Charles’ daytime show on BBC Radio 6 Music in June 2024 (thanks, Craig!), SHY FEST is now presented across TWO of Manchester’s finest grassroots venues! We’re also dedicating this years’ event to our wonderful resident DJ Ste Doyle, and Paul ‘WAGS’ Wagstaff – both of whom passed away recently, having contrubuted so much to the events and will each be missed immensely.

PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE: The Peer Hat on Faraday Street, and neighbouring venue Aaatma (just down the back alley and up the stairs) will be the places to find all the bands, poetry, spoken word, comedy and anything else.

Playing into the small hours for a proper Dirty Jam session, and if there’s any time left, this will be followed by a ShyFest Disco (DJs TBA) in honour of our great resident DJ, Steve ‘SonicDiary’ Doyle, who passed away at Christmas.

Dirty Work, Ricochet, Propaganda, Recovery Park

Eagle & Salmon presents:

9:50 pm. 3 piece Dirty Work will be driving up from London to bring their rock n roll to the Aatma stage.

9:10 pm. Ricochet will also be providing in-your-face rock n roll stage antics with high-energy riffs.

8:30 pm. Mixing grunge and shoegaze, the explosive sounds of Propaganda will be shaking the building and swaying bodies.

7:50 pm. Recovery Park make a return to Aatma following their previous show in February. Read about them in this recent review by Exposed Magazine:

“Recovery Park hit the stage next, not to be fooled by their shy youth. They delivered a monstrous set, a drastic yet not unwelcome change from the somber tones of our introduction. There was real, excellent skill to behold with charged aggressive scissored riffs that chopped underneath their subtle frontman’s sewn vocals. The room became swollen with a sense of force – welcoming. Something that’ll knock you off your feet if you don’t fall in line with their patterned chaos.

Their music is evocative of a tamed, matured rage. Bearing all its teeth but with an intricacy that it demands to be considered with a more attentive and speculative gaze. These aren’t just a loud rock outfit, and there aren’t just loud drones. At times it is patient and melodic. Sometimes it is feverish but never off-road without intent, and a determination to drag us all back onto the road.
They start and they end. And leave us wanting more from the ride.

£6 advance tickets. £7 on the door.

Earthworks, The Infinite Noise Machine, Box Wine

Eagle & Salmon presents:

Box Wine 8:20 pm
Four mates bringing massive energy and even bigger riffs.

The Infinite Noise Machine 9:05 pm
Epic, heavy-as-hell, riff-based, blues-rock power-trio. Inspired by Hendrix, Audioslave, Black Sabbath, The Black Keys and more.

Earthworks 9:50 pm
Unashamadly steeped in 90s alt rock with a nod to psychedelica and the odd powerballad, Earthwork’s songs are at times intimate and melodic and then punchy and anthemic thanks to atmospheric guitars, powerful emotive vocals and formidable back line.
