Face The Silence Vs The Metronics

Divided We Fall Tour 2025

Face The Silence Vs The Metronics
England Versus Scotland

Skies Turn Black – Our English competitor for Manchester a Metal band from the North of England whose brand of metal incorporates the elements of Electronic and NWOBHM with an added electronic twist. Always prioritizing a big riff, a blistering solo, and an epic chorus, Skies Turn Black use heavy metal at their core to explore other avenues of the genre that make for a massive live sound. Having included choirs, orchestras, synthesisers, and keytars in their music, Skies Turn Black are ambitious. Taking the stage at Bloodstock 2023, they showed why they had the right to be there, performing to a rammed Jager tent. A band suited for those larger rooms, this was a major step in the right direction, as the band’s momentum continues to build.

The Metronics – Pioneering glibcore and all things glib. Glib GLIB glib… Formed on a multiple mishearing of a word in the far reaches of England, The Metronics are an alt-rock, grunge, mathcore band. Pulling together dualing vocals, powerful riffs, and eerie soundscapes, The Metronics have formed their music into a narrative of loss, heartbreak and strength in the eyes of defeat. Championing their new singer to form a new sound that packs a punch, their new set will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. The Metronics have finished their first full length album which is set to debut in January 2026. Having successfully managed to perform in and around the North of England they are set to break through into larger venues and perform with greater strength, bolder statements and, deeper reflection. Even if you seen them before it’s still the first time, it’s the last time. glib…

Face The Silence – Born from the depths of personal struggle and forged in the fires of Scottish determination, Face The Silence is a hard rock band that transforms pain into power, silence into sound. The band’s origin story is as compelling as their music – formed during frontman and lead songwriter Doug’s father’s cancer battle, the name “Face The Silence” emerged from a pivotal hospital moment. When Doug told his mother he was going to “face the silence” with his unresponsive father, he unknowingly named both his band and his life philosophy. What began as a creative outlet during one of life’s darkest chapters has evolved into a musical mission that resonates with anyone who’s ever had to confront their deepest fears.

“Time doesn’t stop and neither can we.”
This central philosophy drives every song, every performance, every connection Face The Silence makes with their audience. Their music doesn’t just entertain – it empowers. Each track is built around the belief that facing what we fear most isn’t just important, it’s essential. Tracks like “Traitor” dive deep into psychological struggle and self-sabotage, while maintaining the band’s signature message of bravery in the face of adversity. Face The Silence creates music that encourages audiences to rock out to great songs while embracing the deeper message of courage and resilience. Face The Silence delivers hard rock with heart – music that hits as hard emotionally as it does sonically. For fans who’ve experienced their live shows, they know this isn’t just a band playing songs; it’s a shared experience of facing the silence together. From Scotland to wherever the music takes them, Face The Silence continues to build a community of fearless souls ready to turn their struggles into strength

SHY FEST III

Platforming an eclectic grassroots plethora of punk, alternative, experimental DIY acts… SHY FEST IS BACK for a third installment, and we’re bigger and better than ever!

In honour of the great unsung hero of the early Manchester punk scene, Steve ‘ShyTalk’ Burke; and as showcased on Craig Charles’ daytime show on BBC Radio 6 Music in June 2024 (thanks, Craig!), SHY FEST is now presented across TWO of Manchester’s finest grassroots venues! We’re also dedicating this years’ event to our wonderful resident DJ Ste Doyle, and Paul ‘WAGS’ Wagstaff – both of whom passed away recently, having contrubuted so much to the events and will each be missed immensely.

PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE: The Peer Hat on Faraday Street, and neighbouring venue Aaatma (just down the back alley and up the stairs) will be the places to find all the bands, poetry, spoken word, comedy and anything else.

Playing into the small hours for a proper Dirty Jam session, and if there’s any time left, this will be followed by a ShyFest Disco (DJs TBA) in honour of our great resident DJ, Steve ‘SonicDiary’ Doyle, who passed away at Christmas.

Welly *Moved from The Deaf Institute.*

Due to an electrical fault at The Deaf Institute, Welly will now take place at Aatma. Original tickets will remain valid.

Welly is “one of the most exciting new acts in ages” (Dork Magazine). Crashing together the best bits of escapist pop, indie-disco, punk and DIY electronics, the group—made up of Welly and his school-mates—show early ambition to reconnect the great, grassroots British tradition with the mainstream band. First single ‘Shopping’, for instance, was a riotous love-letter to the UK high street, as compelled by the arch, art-rock of Pulp as the left-field bangers of Girls Aloud. Currently working as a greengrocer, Welly is quickly building a world of curtain-twitching storytelling: recent single ‘Soak Up The Culture’ both sends-up and pays loving tribute to the Lads-On-Tour anthem, whilst ‘Deere John’ is a rollicking tableaux of marital strife (and a lawn-mower). With early support across 6Music, Radio X, and a run of sold-out shows and festivals, Welly are rallying a young audience likewise in search of something different (and something fun). “Meet one of the UK’s wittiest new songwriters” – NME – “a Where’s Wally (or Where’s Welly) of suburban England.

Chance Meeting: PROPERTY UNKNOWN

Our next 2023 show brings together artists Dhangsha, en creux, Pokk!, SW1n-HUNTER who, over the last couple years, have gravitated towards each other’s approach to public sonic experimentation and ethos for continuing to live in this world. Expect harsh noise, glitch, mutant dancehall and more.

Tickets £10 adv/more on the door

Doors 19:30pm

Dhangsha (Bengali for ‘destruction’) is the project and alias of electronic artist Aniruddha Das. He works at the interface of bass culture and experimental noise, creating a kind of “mutant dancehall” where distorted ‘alien’ motifs evolve and disintegrate over sparse but heavy beats. He explores minimalism, repetition and fragmentation, instigating turbulent interactions between metered and non-metric rhythm. Aside from releasing a handful of albums, including “Live at Spirit of Gravity” and “Aberrant,” the latter with label Hard Return, he has contributed to compilations by Iklectik, Syrphe and Avon Terror Corps. He is part of the ground breaking vinyl compilation “Disruptive Frequencies,” on Nonclassical, which received a storming review in The Wire. Dhangsha’s overwhelming passion is playing live. He has performed at the Bogotrax electronic festival in Colombia and has toured throughout the UK and in Europe both solo and supporting political/electronic duo Yao Bobby & Simon Grab. He is set to appear this autumn at Iklectik’s live series “Black Industrial/Noise.” He is a commissioned participant of the AHRC-funded initiative “Exploring Cultural Diversity in Experimental Sound,” examining the relative lack of Black and South Asian practitioners in experimental music in the UK.

Lucia H Chung is a Taiwanese artist based in London, United Kingdom. She performs and releases music under the alias en creux where the sound creation springs from her fascinations in noise generated through no-input feedback mixing board. The volatile nature of the system and the unpredictable glitch from the excessive energy pouring into the equipment becomes her improvisational and compositional strategy. Lucia’s passion lies in live performance and has regularly performed solo and with collaborators in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, including Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival, Krama Festival, and Lisboa Soa Festival.

‘Fuzz comes alive, moving at odd angles like the sinuous threads are being chased by a series of subatomic bleeps and flashes. Tension rises as the tempo picks up, fueling the disjointed rhythmic quality within each sterile, self-contained unit.’ – Fox Digitalis

Pokk! is the co-founder and contributor to the anarcho-collectivist, anti- capitalist, agile electronic music label sometimes referred to as SM-LL, Small, or “the label”. Initiated under the premise and values found in counter culture and electronic music’s position away from the mainstream money engine and the ego’s intent for popularity. Indoctrinated on repetitive, rhythmic electronic music, sometimes full of hiss, bass, clicks, glitches and shifting patterns, often focused around one or two sounds. This is easier than having to layer things.

“No info on this one, obviously…But nothing’s that simple is it?…There’s something reassuring about the anonymity of music that sounds like a factory floor filled with malfunctioning industrial machinery…One for the Vladislav Delay devotees for sure…Emulsified dub radicals and grubbing post techno residues” – Boomkat

CANCELLED motus presents james andrew b2b t.jacques, lowerhauz & schlechte

Our 3rd party this year and we have a very tasty line-up ready to start your bank holiday weekend off with a bang.

With a first ever B2B between two wizards on the wheels, T. Jacques and James Andrew, we cant wait to see what they have in store for us. Don’t miss out on a little bit of history and witness two masters at work.

The stage is set, Aatma is a secluded, cosy space tucked away in Manchester’s northern quarter, a venue perfectly suited to the artists and sounds that will be pumping through the airways all night long.

James Andrew is really flourishing in the scene at the moment, his cutting edge sound is something that simply can’t be ignored. He’s the brains behind Nothing but Nice Records, a label to keep an eye out for with some stellar releases, but James has also released on some major labels such as Limousine Dream & Subsequent and in our opinion one of the best in the game at the moment. On the back of a tour down under and some major dates in the diary this year in Europe, we’re so honoured to have him on board. His style goes hand in hand with Motus and more importantly T.Jacques who he will be sharing the stage with on the 26th.

T.Jacques is another artist who has really blossomed in the scene over the past few years, with his high energy DJ sets, providing beats that you just have to groove to. Not to mention an extremely talented producer with releases on huge labels such as mind helmet, churning out tracks that have made a huge impact in more ways than one. Whether it be making people move on the dance floor or influencing a new generation of producers with his unique sound that leaves an imprint on the mind, his sound is something that we really adore and to have him spinning some records B2B with another insanely talented artist, it would be daft to miss out on what’s to come.

Body Double co-founder and good friend Schlechte makes his second appearance for the Motus faithful. His record bag is filled to the brim with absolute gems. Last time he was nocking out some serious grooves, he really knows how to get the people going. This year Body Double have showcased some serious names such as DJ Pipe and Malika already and they’re only just getting going, watch this space!

Lowerhauz finish the line up, Motus co-founders and brothers who share that party starting telepathy. Anyone who has witnessed one of their sets in the past know exactly what to expect, if not just expect energy from start to finish!
