BOPS (France) with Concrete Club + more tbc

We are delighted to have BOPS joining us at Aatma as part of their UK tour and promoting their 3rd album ‘Sounds of Parade’. The band started as a rock-garage trio comprised of three brothers from Rennes in France, but were joined later by sometimes keyboardist, sometimes guitarist, Tom. Listening to the band’s previous two albums, an evolution from the rock energy of album ‘156’, to the more melodic and harmonic eponymous album ‘BOPS’, emerges. The band have a vein of elegantly expressed derision throughout their songs. Spots of British 60s bands such as The Pretty Things and early Pink Floyd, jump out along with curious nods at Supergrass (check out track ‘Sing Part I’).

With album ‘Sounds of Parade’, opening track ‘The Flag’ introduces a whirlpool of piano and orchestral stabs to the band’s sound, before ending with a touch of melancholy not dissimilar to Radiohead’s. There’s a more resolute pop direction in this album, complete with electronic drum sounds and lush backing vocals, but with the band still retaining elements from 60s bands (the ‘bop’?). What is clear when listening, is this band are going to be awesome to watch live. Check out their accompanying video for ‘The Flag’ below.
