8$FREE NOW X AATMA Presents:
Arriving as Brazil’s answer to The War On Drugs , Atalhos combines the reverb-rinsed touches of ’80s Springsteen , the gentle grandeur of Arcade Fire and the guitar pop of Real Estate or Beach Fossils to create a touching, timeless song. And in 2022, the rising São Paulo band released their new album: ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’, its title makes direct reference to the diary of Peruvian author Julio Ramón Ribeyro.
With a direct influence on the name of the title track and also on the album more broadly, with ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’, Atalhos designed an album to feel the journey of your life with all the intimacy, atmosphere and connection. Combining layers of guitar picks, synthesizers and drum loops with reflective and sentimental lyrics, it’s a deeply transcendent and utterly immersive album. Immersed, flowing in an ephemeral way and with a subtle grandeur, its 8 songs create dreamscapes as if they were portals to other dimensions.
Produced by Ives Sepulveda of The Holydrug Couple with Gabriel Soares of Atalhos himself , the album was recorded at Buenos Aires’ famous Studio Panda, plus studios in Santiago, and the band’s base in São Paulo. With the epic ending of the disc, ‘The Temptation of Failure’ was mastered at Sterling Sound by the famous Greg Calbi (Tame Impala, David Bowie, War on Drugs, Bruce Springsteen) and was released on March 11, 2022.

Manchester trio Veneer might become one of the great Manchester bands to emerge out of the stop-start lockdown period. Their debut EP ‘Talk about today’, released back in 2020, is certainly worth a listen. Since then, the band have been quietly getting on refining their set and writing new songs. The band draw from a number of influences which sit in the grunge, indy, alt bracket, but they are committed to creating a sound of their own. We’re delighted to have them here at Aatma supporting Atalhos for this night.
Opening proceedings will be Danny Dunnery who, along with his band, has recently released the single ‘Leather Jacket and a Green Dress’ as well as his debut album ‘Cuban Radio’. Danny crafts guitar-based songs which include catchy hooks and pop aesthetics. Snippets of his album can be heard here.
