Æ Presents: Helicon, MDME SPKR & Guests
July 26 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Glasgow’s Helicon have become a mythical force in the UK underground since they formed back in 2009 – releasing eight EPs – including 2016’s ‘Gehenna’ on EXAG’ Records (Belgium) – and sharing the stage with the likes of The Wooden Shjips, The Warlocks and Dead Skeletons.
Picking up an ever-growing reputation, the band released their long-overdue self-titled debut LP on Fuzz Club – produced by Tony Doogan at Mogwai’s Castle Of Doom Studio. https://heliconglasgow.bandcamp.com/
Exploring themes of love and loss, drugs and drink, religion and politics, life and death, Helicon’s new album is a collection of sprawling and expansive Eastern-sounding psych-rock. Rock’n’roll has always transcended geographical limits and with this in mind the band explain how the new record aims to explore all of psychedelia’s hazy, deeply-rooted ley-lines across the globe – from the cosmic noise of their Scottish homeland (see The Jesus & Mary Chain, Mogwai etc.) to the sitar-led, opium-tainted sounds of India and the neo-psychedelic swoons of 90s San Francisco.
2018 will see Helicon again team-up with Tony Doogan to record their second album – due for release early 2019

“Primitive and raw, there is a vitality to MDME SPKR’s “Humanoid” that is missing in much of music today. It’s a proper mental flossing that cleans your musical palate.” Dave W. (White Hills) ///
“Ego-destroying and powerful soul music in the true sense of the word” Demian Castellanos (The Oscillation) ///
